SHAFIQUL ALAM
Shafiq has been an award-winning Bangladesh-based journalist for nearly three decades. He was appointed as the Press Secretary to Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in August 2024 after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 15-year-regime was ousted by a student movement.
Previously he was a journalist for Agence France-Presse since 2005 as a correspondent and has been its bureau chief, leading a team of five journalists, since January 2012.
He led the AFP to its award-winning coverage of the Rohingya crisis. Shafiq wrote thousands of stories and features on every big event and issue in Bangladesh in past 18 years.
He intensely covered the Rohingya crisis and won the Human Rights Press Awards more awards for business stories in the early 2000s.
Formerly he was the chief reporter of the Financial Express, Bangladesh's leading business daily. Shafiq's regular medleys of thoughts on assorted and interesting topics around the capital published in Facebook is widely famous among readers as #dhakadiary.
