Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) strongly condemns the physical assault on on-duty photojournalist Sheikh Ferdoush in Dhaka on Thursday (January 16, 2025).

Ferdoush, a photographer with Daily Somoyer Alo, was documenting a demonstration where police used teargas and indiscriminately beat demonstrators in retaliation for brick-throwing.
During the incident, a riot police personnel assaulted Ferdoush with a baton, although he was visibly holding his professional camera.

This unprovoked and unprofessional action by the police is a clear violation of press freedom.
BJIM demands that Ferdoush receive full medical treatment compensation and that justice is served for this attack.

On behalf of all BJIM members,

Sam Jahan, Convener, BJIM
&
Muktadir Rashid, Executive Member, BJIM
